7 Ways to stop comparing yourself to others.

It's now! ^^^
We live in a world designed for comparison. From social  media to day to day life. We can't help it. It's natural to compare yourself to other people, and to an a extent it's necessary, it gets you inspired until it starts to do the opposite. What's the real purpose of social media? What's the real purpose of Facebook? It's to connect with people right? Yeah, well how many times have you switched off your chat and just scrolled through mindless pictures of mindless drones?  It's a trap. It makes you feel terrible about yourself and instead of inspiring you or motivating you it just pushes you right back down with the thought that you can't be anything.

It's not the websites fault. It's our misuse of it.

For years, I told myself to stop comparing myself to other people. But that's just it. It's hard. And nobody really knows where to begin. I would try and fail and try and fail and sink even lower than I thought possible. With a little bit of research and a little bit of experience, i wrote this article. And i can't tell you how much i hope that it helps someone. Anyone.

7. Go on a Social Media detox.

This is the golden rule. Okay it's not the 'life' golden rule but it's this post's golden rule. Being disconnected will make you feel so much more connected. Reflect on what you're doing. You're posting pictures on Facebook, why? You're sharing things on Instagram, why? Why does everyone need to prove that they  have a life, by not actually having a life! Instead of drinking in the sunset, you're scrolling through your Instagram feed.  Don't get me wrong, the power of social media is fantastic and it's changing the world. We're just misusing it.

6.  You can't compare, when you don't know the story.

The thing is that when we compare ourselves to other people, we don't know what we're comparing ourselves to. What people choose to show you isn't necessarily what they are. Would you post a picture of yourself crying on the bathroom floor because you think that your life is over? No. You wouldn't. Same goes for other people. They choose to show you their best. And you're an idiot if you think that that is all there is to them.

5. Maybe you've just begun.

When you compare yourself, do you know what stage in their life they are? Maybe they've had their worst stage. Maybe it's about to happen. You don't know. You can't compare things when they aren't at an equal level.

4. It's a mask.

Look at your social media accounts.
Do you look unhappy or seem even remotely sad? No. Because we live in  a mask,  and so does everyone else. They are going to show you the days when they're out parading with their friends. So do you.

3. It's a waste of time.

There is a world of difference between inspiration and jealousy. And honestly, jealousy is a wasted emotion. Do you see their nice car? Let that be the motivation you need to work your hardest and buy an even better car. Let everyone and everything inspire you and absorb all of it. You have better things to do than compare yourself to other people and you know it.

2. They're not worth it.

More often than not, the people that you are comparing yourself to, aren't worth a second thought. Maybe, they're terrible people, maybe they're rude and insensitive. Why waste your time trying to be something that you're so much greater than? So much greater than.

1. You're so much better than that.

I can't even tell you how much time, energy and emotions you are wasting comparing yourself to other people. You have better things to do than stalk people. You have better things to do rather than trying to be something you're not. You're perfect the way you are and I seriously hope that you know that. Comparison is wasted emotion. That's all it is.

Never forget that you're someone's comparison too.
