For the longest time I have been way too absorbed in making other people happy and sidelining my own feelings. I lived on the thought that if everybody around me was happy, I would automatically be happy too. I was wrong. Making other people happy shouldn't have to be my job, sure it feels great but shoving away your own feelings for others isn't the answer.
Everyones first priority should be themselves and i'm writing this article in hope that this will inspire you to start caring about your own feelings.
Stop insulting yourself.
You feel bad when other people insult you right? Why should the rules bend when it applies to you? Self criticizing and insulting are two different things. You should look at something and think , " Oh, i could have done so much better, I know i'm capable of it. " but instead you think , "I'm such a failure and a disappointment to myself. " The difference is evident. Stop insulting yourself, it's so rude.
Care about yourself the most.
No, i'm not trying to make you a selfish, narcissistic annoyance. I'm only trying to say that you come first. Always.
Always have time for 'me time.'
Me time rules. But everyones is different. I was reading this article on how i should spend my 'me time' and the more i read the more i disagreed with it. The things the author had written were not things that i would enjoy and weren't relaxing according to me. My point is that you have to find out what your 'me time' is. It's different for everyone. For me it would be having a bubble bath with rose petals, scented candles and sudoku. It's weird but it works. Every single person is different, and relaxation for every single person is different too! Try out everything until you've found the perfect choice.
Do things that make you happy.
It's such a simple thought and everyone knows it but for some reason everyone forgets to do it. If painting makes you happy, paint. If gardening makes you happy, do it. If skydiving makes you happy, skydive! It's so crazy how everyone knows the secret to happiness but everyone refuses to open the bloody door. We're almost setting ourselves up for unhappiness.
Turn your happiness into your career.
I've seen too many people with unhappy jobs who didn't follow their passion. My vow is to never be that person. Turn yours passions into your career. All you need to do is let go of the existing job. There are opportunities everywhere! Just because you can't see them now doesn't mean that they aren't here! There are a million possibilities and nobodies dreams are too big or unrealistic for this world.
I really really really hope that this inspired some people to start making themselves more important than their lives. I can't explain how much it would mean to me if you left us a comment, please do!
